OPENING TITLEWILLO THE WISPVOICED...

In the early eighties, Williams provided the voices for a whole miriad of characters in the childrens cartoon, Willo the Wisp, invented and brought to life by Nicholas Spargo for the BBC. His face has been immortalised as the the Wisp, narrator of the stories about Doyle Woods (seen above), with all his major character voices appearing somewhere in the show. It is a shame that the audio cassettes that the BBC produced are now unavailable, and that they have not seen fit to re-release them, however, the great news is that some of the series is now available on video and DVD from Kult Kids. They released 12 episodes a couple of years ago, but now they are ALL here for our enjoyment, and for the ludicrously low price of a tenner. The DVD is spectacular with a wonderful menu to view your favourite episode.

New Video and DVD

Characters included:

Mavis Cruet the Fairy. Alway trying hard to get her spells right, but somehow missing the mark all the time!MAVIS CRUETArthur the Caterpiller. Doyle Woods' know all with a voice very reminiscent of Arthur from On the Buses.ARTHUR

Evil Edna, the nasty witch of the woods. This was one of the most blatant adverts for TV being a bad influence, and ironically was brought to life by the TV!EVIL EDNAMoog. My favourite of all the characters. A sort of cross between a dog and a cow (Moo!) and the stupidest inhabitant of the woods.MOOG

Twit. A wonderful bird, that in this picture is love-sick.TWITCarwash. Truly inspired cat that strutted around Doyle Woods graces with Kenneths 'Noel Coward' voice - comes a close second to Moog as my Favourite.CARWASH

If this wasn't enough, all the episodes were transformed into little books akin to those that have been perpetually available for the Mr Men. There were 26 in all and below is a selection of the covers. I only have 5 of these and must thank Matt Godbolt for kindly taking the time and trouble to scan those that he has. I have included two annuals that I have of the series as well. If anyone has any other books or merchandise relating to the series, can they please contact me so that I may arrange for the details to be included on this page.

I would like to thank Bobbie Spargo for endorsing these pages and wish her luck with trying to get the new prodction off the ground.
